About V. Rev. Archimandrite Chrysostom Onyekakeyah

A Life of Faith, Service, and Mission

V. Rev. Archimandrite Chrysostom Onyekakeyah was born in Owu Amakohia, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State, Nigeria. He was tonsured a monk on November 13, 2000 being Feast day of St. John Chrysostom, among the first set of St. Anthony of Egypt Brotherhood in Lagos, Nigeria, and was subsequently ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 26, 2002.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Anambra State University, Nigeria; a Certificate in Orthodox Theological Studies from St. Anthony’s College, Lagos; a Diploma in Orthodox Theology from St. Stephen’s College, New Jersey, United States; a Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE); and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Vladimir’s Theological Seminary, Yonkers, New York.

He has served the Church in various capacities, including Archdiocesan Youth Chaplain, Chaplain of the Archdiocesan Women’s Organization, and most notably, Vicar General of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Nigeria (2009–2016), before moving to the United States.

During his mission outreaches in southeastern Nigeria, he founded seven church stations, which have since grown into vibrant and flourishing parishes.

Fr. Onyekakeyah is currently serving as the Project Coordinator for Mission and Outreach Development for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA).
